[The soft-spoken, smooth voice was at odds with the rather demonic looks Maul sported, particularly exacerbated by the fact that his grey eyes never seemed to need to blink.]

[ Vash has a bright, friendly smile. He's not the least bit alarmed by how Maul looks. He's seen a lot of weird fashion trends on Noman's Land. ]

I am Darth Maul Reyes. Sharon told me about you. How you have powers that you would like to learn how to control. I can help you with that.

Well...not exactly. [ Vash hums a little nervously. ]

I mean I don't want to use them, I just don't want to lose control.

Control is always a necessity, whether or not you want to use them or simply keep from blowing up everything around you.

[Not that he had any idea if Vash could even do that or not. It was just an expression.]

[ Vash sighs and rubs the back of his neck. He’s not so sure about that. ]

There’s nothing I can do that’s any good. It’s better not to use them.

[He'd run into these types a time or two before. Maul had an idea of what to say to possibly convince Vash otherwise.]

I don't believe powers are divided into 'good' and 'bad.' Perhaps 'light' and 'dark' if you understand those are not the same thing. But it's what we choose to do with them that defines their possibilities.

It’s not exactly that I think they’re bad, they’re just...all I can do is destroy things. I don’t want to do that though. [ He can hurt people, he can destroy things, he actively tries to avoid both, but how far can he avoid it forever? ]

And it’s inconsistent. I can’t just make it happen.

[Maul's face grew thoughtful. Where this discussion was heading directly tied into the beliefs he held about the Dark Side of the Force.]

Destruction is not always a bad thing. Think of the way some farmers will use a controlled wildfire to clear a piece of land. The fire itself is destructive but what it leaves in its wake allows new growth and life to occur. To destroy and to create are simply two sides of the same thing.

[ Vash can’t really help but wonder, although all Plants can make things. Except for him, to Knives’ chagrin. ]

Yeah, my sisters all make things. Nai too. It’s just me. I’ve never been able to really produce anything.

You see? Some create, some destroy. It does not mean a person is bad for simply following what is in their nature. What matters is being able to choose to use that power instead of letting it simply come forth without our bidding.

[huntedtyphoon]

[ He has a valid point. It’s not that Vash’s nature is to destroy, but it’s definitely not to create. He doesn’t really understand everything he can do and seeing his brother go off the deep end only made him want to do it less. ]

I hope that’s not true. I’d like it more if people would try and get along instead of fighting all the time. You’re right, though, I don’t like it when things get out of control.

If I did not have the control I did, I would be little more than a raging hurricane, my powers destroying anything I set my eye on.

[Despite what some people thought about Maul, he had much more finesse and grace than that when it came to using the abilities granted by the Dark Side of the Force.]

Wouldn't you like to be able to no longer be afraid of yourself?

[ There's a bit of a pause. Is he really afraid of himself? ...yes, actually, he is. Almost as much as he's afraid of Nai. ]

I...would not like to be afraid of myself, that's true, but I don't want to use my power. I just want to stop it from going out of control. Do you think that's possible?

I think it is. Once you master it, you can choose whether or not you want to use it, instead of having it activate on it own without you wanting it to. What do you say? Would you you like to learn?

I would like to learn but there’s just one thing. Do you think it’s possible to do without using my power, or do I have to use it to practice?

[ He’s worried about it, yes, but he’s also worried about how much power he has left. If he burns out, Wolfwood’s not going to forgive him. ]

[Maul smiled, a closed-mouth one that was a bit more gentle than he was warranted to give most people.]

I am afraid that is like trying to get stronger through exercising without actually moving your body. If you want to be strong, you must work out muscles to get that way. In order to control your power, you must learn to use it first so that you can be the one to decide whether you want to continue to use it or not.

However, we can work on the mental portion of things first before we tackle the physical if that is what you are worried about.

[ Vash is relieved and he smiles a little bit too. ]

That seems like something that might help. The mental part, I mean. I haven’t really thought much about it.

[ It could be good, or it very much could not. It was hard to say. ]

Very well then. We shall start with meditation and work our way up from there.

[This seemed like a student who was going to need the very first basic level before attempting anything.]
